The Driskell Hotel has got to be one of the most beautiful venues in Austin, TX. There are 2 elements that make this true: its architecture and the natural lighting that permeates throughout. It’s AMAZING for traditional, natural light boudoir.
It wasn’t my first time shooting there, but it was my first combo boudoir and wedding portrait shoot. As you might know, my wedding and boudoir photography are officially separate brands. Go to everettchristopher.com to check out my wedding photography work!
Back to the shoot. I booked a hotel room in advance and spoke with Driskell management to make this shoot happen. Their rates for booking were surprisingly affordable: with a booked hotel room it was only $150 bucks! Our plan was to shoot a boudoir session in the hotel room and then get Alyx dolled up in a wedding dress and cathedral veil and then shoot on the Driskell Mezzanine and in its adjoining rooms. The Mezzanine is on the second floor and is a popular choice for weddings and corporate events.
A little bit about Alyx: we have been friends for YEARS. Her first shoot was with me! She is an incredible, natural model. Give her a follow on IG at instagram.com/ciao.andi!
It was a lengthy shoot: about 2 hours for the boudoir session, 2 hours for the bridal portraits, and about 2-3 hours of prep time. But time flies when you’re having fun. Also, I always recommend bringing some water and snacks to stay energized and refreshed throughout the day. Photography and modeling ARE both fun, but you’d be surprised how physical both can be.
Suffice it to say the photos came out SPECTACULAR. I hope to shoot there again soon, perhaps next time with a beautiful client!
